Tattooed ladies & an outspoken 4 year old

Image from here

You know how you get to that point where you think you are doing okay as a parent.  The madam is four now so she is goes to the toilet herself, feeds herself, mostly sleeps well, is a fairly nice kid so I probably became a little complacent.

Yesterday changed all that....

It was pay day, and as usual the pay didn't go in until five, so it was a late dash to the shops.  I had one grumpy four year old in tow so I tried to make it as quick and painless as possible.  I even pulled the bribery - ' If you are good I'll buy...' card - yes it was not a classy parent day.

Now to understand what happened next you probably need to know a bit about us.  The Mr has tattoos, my sister is tattooed, my friends have tattoos, my brother & sister in laws are tattooed, we have tattoo art in our house - I have taken the Madam to numerous tattoo parlours in search of someone to do one for me.  She is surrounded my tattooed people, hippies, conservative what have you!

She walks down the supermarket and spots a stunning girl who is covered head to toe in tattoos with long dreads and proceeds to say at top volume,

" What did you draw on yourself? Girls shouldn't have tattoos just Daddy's"

Needless to say I apologised and tore out of there at top speed  with the Madam still at full volume now going

" Mum I knew she was a girl cause she had big boobies like you"

Yes I followed that situation up with a lecture about inappropriate behaviour, everyones right to look how they want and why on earth did she think it was so strange when everyone we know has tattoos....

Then I remembered apart from the fact it was just 'one of those moments  we had  also recently seen the reigning conservative female in our lives - now I know why those visits are few and far between.

* My lesson: Don't take her shopping after 4pm, if I don't want her to say something she will say it, she takes everything in so try and override the negative with SO MUCH more cool things*

I have a very spirited, outspoken child, and I cannot count how many times in his eleven years that something of this nature has happened.

I'm always left questioning what prompts it... And, who knows what the answers have been along the way... Some of it, I can look back and laugh, some of it I can still just turn red in the face and pray for absolution. Haha!

Love that image of Kat, by the way :)

I love how random kids can be =)

I stopped off at the supermarket once on the way to the gym, wearing a bandana. In the checkout queue a young child looked up at me, tugged his mother's hand and asked, "mummy, is that a pirate?".

I winked & smiled at him.

The mother was embarrased, the kid still uncertain, and me - I was just happy to be mistaken for a pirate.

arrr.

Oh they will say the most innappropriate things at the worst of times! Dont sweat it too much, she is only little and most people are very understanding. the things my girls have said and done when i would much rather they didnt could fill a book!
Tigerlily picked up some most amusing language at that age from a friend relating to male genitalia (D...H...)that was embarressing. And i swear my eldest attracts the grumpiest people over the littlest things.
Oh, and if she is really grumpy at that hour maybe giving her something to eat before going, if you REALLY have to go.Its the worst time here with people getting grumpy too. HUGS

classic! I bet the woman was not phased really. love the pirate story from bobby. my boy 4 was walking with me locally and we walked past a vietnam vet with an eye patch and my boy's mouth nearly hit the floor. There was no question about it and luckily he was so in awe nothing was said till we were past and then he said 'did you see that pirate?' and i said yes but maybe he isn't a pirate (such a dumb comment from me!) and he said, 'yeah, your right, he is a retired pirate'!
PERFECT!
XX
don't they keep us real?

LOL my then 3yr old was in the trolley in the supermarket when we went into an aisle with a black lady with lots of braids "oh mummy look Trisha from playschool!!"
(this was 20 yrs ago) The lady smiled & said she got that all the time !! another time she told a little girl in the cereal aisle who was getting fruit loops that she shouldnt eat that rubbish as it was full of colours & sugar and not nutritionaly good for her!!! I did get a dirty look from that mum she is now 23 & a tattooist & covered in tatts & would not be at all worried if a child said that ....nice to find another Adelaide crafter
